Mathematics Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements

Entering freshman
majoring in mathematics

Residency
Requirement

U.S. Citizen or legally residing in the United States

Enrollment status

Majoring in mathematics

Enrolling as a full-time student
-
Must successfully complete at least 30 credit hours each
year the scholarship is received
-
Must be enrolled in a least one math class satisfying a
requirement of the major after the first semester (A
student may take Math 115 or Math 118 the first semester
of his or her freshman year; math teaching majors are
exempt from taking a math course during the student
teaching semester.)

Award may be used during the fall, spring or summer
term; there is no math requirement for the summer term.

Academic
requirements
-
Have a minimum high school g.p.a. of 3.3 out of a possible
4.0
-
Have a minimum of either a 600 on the Math SAT or a 26 on
the Math ACT
-
Have applied for admission to USI by March 1
-
Selection decisions
-
Made by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Department
of Mathematics
-
Selection based on merit
-
Renewable
requirements
-
Maintain a minimum USI g.p.a. of 3.0 through 62 credit hours
and a minimum 3.3 thereafter
-
Maintain a minimum 2.75 g.p.a. in all math classes
fulfilling the major
-
Demonstrate the ability to successfully complete a
bachelor's degree in mathematics within 4 1/2 years
-
The applicant may
receive other forms of academic assistance without jeopardizing
his/her eligibility as long as maximum financial aid does not
exceed cost of board, room, tuition, fees and books.

This scholarship
will provide funds to cover half the cost of tuition (at the
in-state tuition rate) for
all credit
hours enrolled by the student during the fall, spring or summer
term.

This half-tuition
scholarship is automatically renewed each year all requirements
are met for up to four years (maximum of eight semesters and
four summer terms).
