Mathematics Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

    • Entering freshman majoring in mathematics
    • Residency Requirement
      • U.S. Citizen or legally residing in the United States
    • Enrollment status
      • Majoring in mathematics
      • Enrolling as a full-time student
        • Must successfully complete at least 30 credit hours each year the scholarship is received
        • Must be enrolled in a least one math class satisfying a requirement of the major after the first semester (A student may take Math 115 or Math 118 the first semester of his or her freshman year; math teaching majors are exempt from taking a math course during the student teaching semester.)
        • Award may be used during the fall, spring or summer term; there is no math requirement for the summer term.
    • Academic requirements
      • Have a minimum high school g.p.a. of 3.3 out of a possible 4.0
      • Have a minimum of either a 600 on the Math SAT or a 26 on the Math ACT
      • Have applied for admission to USI by March 1
    • Selection decisions
      • Made by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Mathematics
      • Selection based on merit
    • Renewable requirements
      • Maintain a minimum USI g.p.a. of 3.0 through 62 credit hours and a minimum 3.3 thereafter
      • Maintain a minimum 2.75 g.p.a. in all math classes fulfilling the major
      • Demonstrate the ability to successfully complete a bachelor's degree in mathematics within 4 1/2 years
    • The applicant may receive other forms of academic assistance without jeopardizing his/her eligibility as long as maximum financial aid does not exceed cost of board, room, tuition, fees and books.
    • This scholarship will provide funds to cover half the cost of tuition (at the in-state tuition rate) for all credit hours enrolled by the student during the fall, spring or summer term.
    • This half-tuition scholarship is automatically renewed each year all requirements are met for up to four years (maximum of eight semesters and four summer terms).
