Scholarships


Kinesiology & Sport Department Scholarships

·         Morris & Margaret Smith Davis Scholarship

The Kinesiology & Sport Department awards a scholarship each academic year to a student in any major. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, or books during the student’s junior or senior year. This scholarship is non-renewable.

 

In order to be eligible for the Morris & Margaret Smith Davis Scholarship, one must:

o   Be Sophomore or Junior status or Transfer student that has a full academic year of coursework left

o   Must have a 2.75 GPA or higher

o   Must work at least part time

 

Application process:

Please attach the following information to the Application Form. Information must be typed and computer printed.

1.      Completion of Application (see below)

2.      A copy of the student’s resume

3.      An unofficial transcript

4.      Applicant’s Statement: Prepare a 1-2 page statement in which you describe your career goals and plans, your need for financial assistance, and your qualifications for this scholarship.

5.      Community Activities:  List community activities in which you have participated during your time at the University of Southern Indiana.

6.      Request Letter of Recommendation:  Provide a letter of recommendation from one adult who knows your qualifications and include them in a sealed envelope when submitting an application packet.

 

Applications must be received (if submitting in person)/postmarked (if mailing) no later than Friday, November 16, 2012.

·         Sport Management Scholarship

The Kinesiology & Sport Department awards a $1,500 scholarship each academic year to provide financial assistance for tuition reimbursement to deserving Sport Management Majors/Minors and Kinesiology Majors with a specialization in Sport Management.

 

In order to be eligible for the Sport Management Scholarship, one must:

o   Be a full-time undergraduate student within the University of Southern Indiana Kinesiology & Sport Department Sport Management program during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded.

o   Be Sophomore or Junior status or Transfer student that has a full academic year of coursework left

o   Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

o   Must be a Sport Management major/minor or Kinesiology Major with a Specialization in Sport Management

o   Must be a member of the Sport Management Club

·         Outstanding Student Award (for each major)

The Kinesiology & Sport Department awards a certificate annually to one outstanding student from each major. These students are recognized at the Pott College of Science, Engineering, & Education Honors Convocation each spring semester.

 

Candidates for this award are nominated by the Kinesiology & Sport Department faculty.

 

·         Outstanding Student Scholarship

The Kinesiology & Sport Department awards a $350 scholarship annually to the most outstanding student in any major.

 

In order to be eligible for the Outstanding Student Scholarship, one must:

o   Not be a graduating senior

o   Enrolled during the 2013-2014 academic year

 

Candidates for this award are nominated by the Kinesiology & Sport Department faculty.

 

·         Robert & Jane Davis Brezette Scholarship

The Athletics Board awards a scholarship annually to one male and one female athlete with a major in the Kinesiology & Sport Department.

 

Candidates for this award are nominated by the Athletics Board.

 

 

Pott College of Science, Engineering & Education Scholarships

 

·         USI Foundation Excellence in Learning Award

Each year, the Pott College of Science and Engineering awards two $1,000 awards to deserving undergraduate students. Students must be a sophomore or junior at the time of the award. Awards may be used for tuition, books, or fees only.

 

Candidates for this award are nominated by each department and chosen by the Chairs of the college.

 

 

University Scholarships

 

·         Administrative Assistants & Associates Club Scholarship

The AA&A currently awards three $500 scholarships during Honors Week in March/April to selected USI students. The online application will be available November 1st of each year. Applications are accepted on a yearly basis during the months of November and December.  

 

To qualify for one of these awards, an applicant must:

o   Be a full-time undergraduate student one semester prior to applying

o   Be a full-time undergraduate student when the scholarship is taken

o   Maintain a 3.0 GPA

o   Be in need of financial assistance (may be receiving other forms of financial aid)

·         Aileen Nunn Renner Non-Traditional Scholarship

This program awards ten $2,500 awards for non-traditional undergraduate and/or graduate USI students. This scholarship is aimed at students who qualify for minimal or no financial assistance. The scholarship is not automatically renewable, but applicants may apply for a second year. 

 

In order to qualify for this award, an applicant must:

o   Have a GPA of 3.0 or better

o   Be employed

o   Be either single or married with children

o   A nontraditional student 25 years old or older

·         Evansville Retired Teachers Association Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to deserving education majors from Gibson, Posey, Vanderburgh, or Warrick counties with personality and leadership potential.

 

In order to qualify for this award, an applicant must:

o   Be a current sophomore or junior education major

o   Have a GPA of 2.8 or higher

 

To be considered for this award, students will need to submit an application packet prior to early December. This packet includes a scholarship application form, transcript of academic work, and letter(s) of recommendation.

·         Helen M. Bamberger Memorial Scholarship

The Helen M. Bamberger Memorial scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior with strong writing skills and a keen interest in teaching and community activities. Applications for this scholarship are due in December, and awarded annually during Honors Week.

·         Pamela Grubb Memorial Scholarship and Kappa Delta Pi Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a bright and deserving student and is chosen by the Faculty Senate Student Affairs Committee. Applications for these university-wide scholarships are due in December, and awarded annually during Honors week.

 

In order to qualify for this award, an applicant must:

o   Be enrolled as a full-time student

o   Have completed two full semesters at USI prior to the term in which they apply

o   Have a minimum 3.5 GPA (renewal is dependent on meeting this requirement)

o   Be in need of financial assistance

·         USI/Epi-Hab Center for Disabilities Studies Scholarship

Each year, this program awards six $1,000 awards to USI students. Winners are selected from each college/division. Students who have a disability, or assist individuals with disabilities in either their personal lives or workplace are encouraged to apply. 

 

In order to qualify for this award, an applicant must:

o   Be currently enrolled in classes at USI at the time of application and award

o   Have completed at least 12 semester hours OR transferred 12 semester hours to USI

o   Have a minimum GPA of 2.7 for undergraduates or 3.0 for graduate students

 

To be considered for this award, students will need to submit an application packet prior to early December. This packet includes a scholarship application form, 1,000 word personal essay, and two letters of recommendation.

·         USI Bookstore Scholarship

The USI Bookstore awards one $2,000 scholarship to each college yearly.

 

Candidates for this award are nominated by each college and chosen by the USI Bookstore.

 

 

Community/State/National Scholarships

 

·         Catherine Wolf Conference Scholarship

Indiana AHPERD offers conference scholarships to students attending Indiana colleges and universities.

 

Winners receive the following:

o   A one year membership to IAHPERD

o   Free IAHPERD conference registration

o   Scholarship award certificate presented at the student pizza party

o   $50 for expenses (must be present at the awards ceremony)

·         Jean Lee and Jeff Marvin Scholarship

Each year the Indiana AHPERD awards four $1,000 scholarships to undergraduate students. The scholarship is based upon participation in collegiate activities, professional competencies, potential as a professional, grade point average, financial need, and recommendations.

 

In order to qualify for this award, an applicant must:

o   Be attending an Indiana college or university

o   Be a junior or senior during the upcoming academic year

o   Major in health education, physical education, recreation, dance education, or allied areas (including sport administration)

 

To be considered for this award, students will need to submit an application packet prior to December 1st. This packet includes a scholarship application form, answers to four specific questions, and two faculty members currently members of IAHPERD.

·          Lois and Betsy Hamburg USI Scholarship

Each year the Vanderburgh Community Foundation awards a $4690 scholarship to undergraduate students at USI. The scholarship is based upon academic achievement, financial need, and an essay.

 

In order to qualify for this award, an applicant must:

o   Be a student currently attending the University of Southern Indiana

o   Demonstrate financial need

 

To be considered for this award, students will need to submit an official grade transcript, essay, student aid report, and a resume.
