Examines the basic philosophies and concepts of coaching. Attention is focused on the background information of coaching in general rather than on specific sports. This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the acute and chronic physiological responses and adaptations to physical activity and exercise training, as well as the effects of various factors and conditions on physical performance. Physiological principles are introduced pertaining to appropriate training programs for maximizing physical performance and lifetime physical fitness and wellness. Students will receive preparation for certification as an American Red Cross water safety instructor. Prerequisite(s): 16 years old, possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) Certificate, completed a precourse session.
