Campus Recreation Internships


Welborn Foundation Wellness & Fitness Center at Ivy Tech
Fall and Spring internships are available. Intern responsibilities include assisting with daily operations of fitness center, supervising workouts, conducting equipment orientations, encouraging participants, correcting improper techniques, answer phones, demonstrate proper exercise techniques and use of equipment, describe policies and procedures of the fitness center, develop sound individualized exercise programs based on personal fitness goals and current fitness level, conduct fitness assessments, and assisting with various wellness and fitness programs: health fairs, wellness screens/events, newsletters, etc.

Interns must be flexible and willing/available to work a wide variety of hours.

Interns must be available for training prior to the semester they intend to work. Interested students must apply at least one month before the semester in which they wish to intern.

Facility Operations:
Facility supervision
Building Maintenance
Equipment Maintenance
Equipment Inventory
Facility Reservations
Customer Service
Attendance Reports
Prize/awards inventory
First Aid Kit inventory
Budget Management

Intramural Sports including Special Events:
Help professional staff organize and plan activities
Organize and plan an activity
Assist with Official/Scorekeeper training and scheduling
Attend and assist with Captain’s Meetings
Officiate/Scorekeep/Supervise activities
Help maintain and care for equipment
Evaluate Intramural programs and activities
Attend staff training sessions
Become first aid/CPR certified
Assist with Club sports

Outdoor Adventure including Climbing Wall:
Assist trip leader on Outdoor Adventure trips
Help plan and coordinate Outdoor Adventure trips
Care and maintenance of camping equipment
Assist with outdoor adventure equipment checkout
Attend and assist with pre-trip meetings
Learn to belay & climb
Set routes based on difficulty
Teach beginners how to climb & belay safely
Risk management and safety procedures
Care and maintenance of climbing equipment

Public Relations:
Marketing
Print materials/publications
Website editing and updating
