Special Education Concentration

This concentration is suitable for any teacher (K-12) who wants to improve his/her practice to serve students in the inclusive classroom.  A recommendation for adding special education to an existing teaching license requires a minimum of 24 hours of focused coursework.  In addition to the special education courses, the MSE student following this concentration also completes EDUC 601, 631, and 671 or 674, for a total of at least 33 hours of graduate study.

EDUC 512—Assessment/Evaluation of Students with Exceptionalities
EDUC 513 (Elem.) or EDUC 518 (Sec.)—Instructional Strategies
EDUC 514 – Inclusive Philosophy and Educational Practices
EDUC 515—Classroom/Behavior Management for Students with Exceptional Needs
EDUC 521—Exceptional Needs: Practicum I
EDUC 522—Exceptional Needs: Practicum II
EDUC 523—Collaborative Partnerships             
EDUC 690—ST: Introduction to Gifted and Talented
EDUC 690—ST: differentiated Instruction for High Ability Students
EDUC 690—ST: Current Trends in Special Education
