Teaching Minors and Content Areas - Reading


This program has been designed to prepare the student for professional work in the area of reading. The minor in reading is an excellent area of specialization for both prospective elementary and secondary teachers.

Course Requirements - 24 hours
Foundations of Literacy
EDUC 203Introduction to Children's Literature 3 hours
EDUC 378Literacy Methods I 3 hours
Diagnosis and Correction of Reading Difficulties
EDUC 398Literacy Methods II 3 hours
EDUC 455 Diagnostic Teaching of Reading 3 hours
Literacy and Diversity
EDUC 204 Teaching Writing in Diverse Classrooms K-8: Research-Based Practices Across the Curriculum 3 hours
EDUC 381 Literacy, Language, and Culture 3 hours
Electives in Reading: Choose two (2) of the following:
EDUC 440 Current Trends in Reading 3 hours
EDUC 441 Young Adult Literature 3 hours
EDUC 442 Advanced Children's Literature 3 hours
EDUC 480 Diversity in Children's Literature 3 hours
One (1) of the following: ENG 105, ENG 255, ENG 265, or ENG 330 3 hours
