Teaching Minors and Content Areas -
Special Education



The program allows a teaching candidate to add exceptional needs mild intervention content area minor in conjunction with an early childhood education, elementary education, or a middle/high school content area teaching major.

Course Requirements - 25 hours
Exploration Phase
EDUC 206 Introduction to Exceptionalities 3 hours
EDUC 315 Management for Students with Exceptional Needs
- Students must complete EDUC 292 or EDUC 293 prior to enrolling)
3 hours
Analysis Phase
EDUC 411 Exceptional Needs: Legal and Contemporary Issues 3 hours
EDUC 413 Differentiated Instruction I: Elementary 3 hours
EDUC 421 Exceptional Needs Practicum I: Elementary 2 hours
EDUC 423 Collaborative Partnerships: The Inclusive Classroom 3 hours
EDUC 418 Differentiated Instruction II: Secondary 3 hours
EDUC 422 Exceptional Needs Practicum II: Secondary 2 hours
Electives - Choose one (1) of the following:
EDUC 490 Special Topics: Issues and Trends in Special Education 3 hours
EDUC 381 Literacy, Language, and Culture 3 hours
EDUC 398 Literacy Methods II 3 hours
