Bachelor of Social Work
Each student who applies for admission to the BSW Program must meet the following minimum requirements:
Included in the file should be a copy of the transcripts from each college attended. If any of the material is not present the student must contact the USI Registrars Office and request that the information be sent to the Social Work Department.
Please have the Registrar’s Office of each school attended send an official transcript directly to: Office of Admissions, University of Southern Indiana, 8600 University Blvd., Evansville, Indiana 47712.
This includes all course work taken by the applicant.
At least 2 of the course must have an official grade at the time an application is submitted.
SOCW 221 - Introduction to Social Work - 3 hours
SOCW 222 - Social Welfare - 3 hours
SOCW 239 - Human Behavior and the Social Environment - 3 hours
SOCW 241 - Social Work Intervention - 3 hours

Composition - One English Course (ENG 101 or 201)
Western Culture - One course in the humanities area - Students must take one 3 hour course from the USI Core Curriculum areas of B1, or B2, or C4
Science - Biology of Human Concern (BIOL 105)
Math - A math class at the 100 or higher level
Individual Development/Social Behavior:
Introduction to Psychology
Lifespan Development Psychology
Principals of Sociology
Social Problems
Introduction To Political Science; or Introduction To American Politics or State and Local Government
All social work and core curriculum prerequisite courses must be completed by the beginning of the semester the student plans to enroll in social work “majors only” courses.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide all materials to the Social Work Department by the application deadline. All materials must be received before the application will be reviewed by the admission committee.
Submit an original and two copies of the completed application and personal statement by the appropriate deadline. Students are expected to monitor the progress of their application to insure that all materials are submitted.
The committee may request additional information concerning the applicant from social work faculty. All faculty are given a list of applicants and asked to provide the committee with feedback.
NOTE: The program does not grant academic credit for life work or work experience in lieu of social work courses or field content.
