About Social Work
The Social Work Department at the University of Southern Indiana was established in 1985. The department currently offers a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) degree program, and its combined programs are housed in the Education Center. The primary goal of the department is the education of quality undergraduate "generalist" and graduate advanced "specialized" professional social work practitioners who are prepared to work with diverse populations of those in need including: individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and the greater society.
The department, as reflected in the Mission of the University, specifically has a goal of impacting the need for quality Social Workers in the University service region. Additionally, the department strives to support organizations and communities within the region through research, community service, consultation, and professional development. The curriculum is infused with a "systems" perspective which is the underpinning for the program and provides an effective basis for studying, treating, and serving people within their environment. The department also has a commitment to preparing students for continued inquiry and critical thought as well as continued growth and development of the whole person, both personally, and professionally. In order to meet these goals, the department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, university service, and community service.

Social Work Department Goals
  1. To prepare quality undergraduate "generalist" and graduate advanced "specialized" professional social work practitioners.
  2. To serve the University "service region" by providing research consultation, community services, and professional development to individuals, organizations, institutions, and communities related to human need.
  3. To prepare all students towards continuing education through providing a solid foundation for continuation of their education based upon an orientation toward inquiry and critical thought.
