Professional social workers in Indiana are licensed under the Indiana Health Professions Bureau. The Health Professions Bureau is located at 402 W. Washington St., Indianapolis Indiana 46204 and the contact number is 1-317-234-2064. The Indiana Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselors Board, located in this agency manage the licensing process.
Students graduating with a BSW degree from USI may take the state licensing exam for “Licensed Social Workers (LSW),” after two years of supervision in an agency under an appropriate licensed social worker. Students graduating with an MSW may take the exam for “Licensed Social Workers (LSW),” immediately after graduation.
Individuals graduating with the MSW from USI may take the state licensing exam for “Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW),” after two years post master’s supervision by a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). Students who graduate from the MSW program with the additional “School Social Work Specialization” may also apply for certification as a school worker in Indiana. To obtain more information, please contact the Indiana Department of Education Division of Professional Standards.
