Holscher chooses to play basketball at USIShooting guard is eighth new player for 2008-09
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced that 6-foot shooting guard Levi Holscher (Vincennes, Indiana) has committed to play for the Screaming Eagles in 2008-09. Holscher is the eighth player to commit or sign with USI Head Coach Rick Herdes.
Holscher was named the Vincennes Sun-Commercial Player of the Year and to the Evansville Courier & Press All-Southwestern Indiana team after averaging 18.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last year for the South Knox High School. He helped lead the Spartans to the Class 2A Regional Semifinals and an 18-7 overall record in 2007-08.
A member of the Indiana South All-star team, Holscher scored 14 points in the 2008 North/South Indiana All-Star Classic after the 2007-08 campaign. He finishes his career as the SKHS all-time leading scorer (1,296 career points) and all-time leader in steals (192).
Holscher was coached at SKHS by Head Coach Joe Patton, a former USI men's basketball student assistant coach.
"Levi has experience in an up-tempo style of play that will benefit him at USI," said Herdes. "He has a high basketball IQ and shoots the ball well from the perimeter."
Holscher joins a recruiting class that includes guards Jared Gray (Newburgh, Indiana), Brandon Hogg (Edwardsville, Illinois), Marvin Gray (Bahamas), and Kevin Gant (Indianapolis, Indiana); and forwards Brandon Carr (Baltimore, Maryland), Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio).
