USI falls on the road to Murray State

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team stumbled on the road at Murray State University, 11-7, Wednesday afternoon in Murray, Kentucky. USI falls to 11-10 overall, while MSU goes to 15-12-1 in 2001.

Sophomore second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles in the losing effort, going two-for-four with a home run (second of the season) and three RBIs. After today’s action, Schiff has a team-leading 21 RBIs in 21 games.

Sophomore centerfielder Andy Nucci (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) joined Schiff with multiple hits, going two-for-five with an RBI.

On the mound for the Eagles, junior right-hander Steve Arnold (Evansville, Indiana) took the loss, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in three innings. Arnold, who struck out three, falls to 2-1 on the seasons. He was followed by senior left-hander Aaron Piening (Indianapolis, Indiana) and freshman right-hander Toby Pritchard (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), who went three innings each.

The next action for the Eagles will be on Thursday, March 29, at Oakland City University for a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m..

USI resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference action with doubleheaders Saturday, March 31, at Saint Joseph’s College and Sunday, April 1, at Indiana University/Purdue University Ft. Wayne. Action begins at noon both days.
