University of Southern Indiana senior right-handed pitcher Jon Adams (Ft. Branch, Indiana) and junior third baseman Brian Branson (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) led USI to a 14-4 victory over Oakland City University Thursday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. The Screaming Eagles, who won the season series with OCU 3-1, raise their record back to the .500 mark at 24-24, while the Mighty Oaks fall to 15-21 this spring.
Adams raised his record to 3-4 with the seven-inning complete game victory. He allowed five hits and four earned runs while striking out three.
With USI down 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Branson got the Eagle offense going with his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right-center. He finished the game going three for five at the plate with two runs scored, four RBIs, a triple, and a home run.
Branson was joined by sophomore second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana) with four RBIs. Schiff, who has a hit safely in 20 of his last 22 games, was two-for-four with a double and four RBIs. In the last 22 games, Schiff is hitting .387 with 34 runs scored, 26 RBIs, 13 doubles, three home runs.
The Eagles will finish the final homestand of the season on Saturday and Sunday, April 29, when they host Bellarmine University for a GLVC three-game series. Start time on both days will be noon.
The Sunday single game with Bellarmine will be Senior Day at the USI Baseball Field. USI will be saluting four senior pitchers -- Jon Adams, Aaron Piening, Kylan Stuck, and Jay Winters – and two senior position players – Greg Baisden and Andy Cook.
