USI completes series sweep

@University of Southern Indiana 10, Quincy University 5

The University of Southern Indiana baseball completed a three-game series sweep of Quincy University with a 10-5 victory Sunday at the USI Baseball Field. USI, which has won a season-high four straight, raised its record to 20-17 overall, 9-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Quincy falls to 9-20, 4-11 GLVC.

USI senior right-hander Jon Adams (Ft. Branch, Indiana) picked up his second win of the season for the Eagles, going 7 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, two earned runs, 10 hits, and two walks while striking out five. Adams raised his record to 2-5 for the season.

At the plate, USI was led by sophomore second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana), who was three-for-four with four runs scored and four RBIs. The highlight of the day for Schiff was a a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give USI a 7-3 lead.

Schiff was joined in the USI offensive outburst by sophomore leftfielder Andy Nucci (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) and senior first baseman Aaron Piening (Indianapolis, Indiana) with three RBI’s each. Nucci was three-for-five with a run scored and three runs driven in, while Piening was two-for-four and knocked three runners in.

The Eagles will go on the road this week for doubleheaders at McKendree College Tuesday, April 17, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Wednesday, April 18. USI will return home to play Northern Kentucky University Saturday, April 21.
