USI baseball falls in the
series finale at UMSL
University
of Missouri-St. Louis 5, University of Southern Indiana 3
The University of Southern Indiana baseball team could not
make it three in a row over the University of Missouri-St. Louis, falling 5-3 in
St. Louis, Missouri, Sunday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles finish the regular
season with a 27-27 overall record, 15-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Entering the post-season for the first time since 1994, USI
will be the number four seed in the GLVC Tournament May 10-13 at Southern
Illinois University Edwardsville. The Eagles will play the number three seed
University of Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday, May 10, at 9
a.m.
The remainder of the GLVC first round match-ups will be top
seeded University of Indianapolis versus the number six seed Northern Kentucky
University at 12:15 p.m.; and the second seed SIUE versus the number five seed
UMSL at 3:30 p.m. The tournament is double-elimination.
In today’s season finale, the Rivermen jumped out to a 5-0
lead after three innings off USI senior starter Jon Adams (Ft.
Branch, Indiana). The Eagles tried to come back, scoring three in the top of the
sixth, but could only muster a single hit in the last three frames.
USI was led at the plate by sophomore second baseman Adam
Schiff (Evansville, Indiana), who was two-for-four with a double
and a run scored.
