The University of Southern Indiana baseball team put its first mark into the win column Wednesday afternoon, defeating Oakland City University 9-3 at the USI Baseball Field. USIís record goes to 1-3 overall, while OCU falls to 0-1.

The top of the batting order did the job for the Screaming Eagles, combining for eight hits, six of the nine runs, and six RBIs. USI freshman leftfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) led the way with a three-for-four performance, including three runs scored, and an RBI triple.

Wetzel was joined in collecting multiple hits by senior centerfielder Marcus Renn (Floyds Knobs, Indiana), who was two-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI junior first baseman Justin Konopacki (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), two-for-four with two RBIs and junior catcher Paul Kohler (Arnold, Missouri), who was two-for-four with a runs scored in the eighth spot of the line-up.

On the mound, junior left-hander Brian Anderson (Brazil, Indiana) bounced back from a rough start against Carson-Newman College to dominate the Mighty Oaks. Anderson went seven innings for the victory, allowing five hits, three runs (one earned), and struck out five batters.

Freshman left-hander Matt Antey (Newburgh, Indiana) finished the game for Anderson, going two innings and allowing one hit while striking out three.

The next action for the Screaming Eagles will be Friday, February 22, when they host Eastern Illinois University for a 2 p.m. contest at the USI Baseball Field. The homestand continues through the weekend when they host Truman State University for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday, February 23-24. Start times for Saturday and Sunday are noon each day.
