The University of Southern Indiana baseball team saw its bats come alive this afternoon at the USI Baseball Field in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles recorded a total of 17 hits and scored 19 runs as they split a doubleheader with Truman State University (11-4, 8-12).
USI scored five runs in the bottom of the first and matched that total in the bottom of the second as it cruised to an 11-4 victory in the first game of the doubleheader. Evansville native Steve Arnold (Harrison) threw 5.2 innings, giving up just two earned runs off seven hits and striking out four batters, to pick up his first victory of the season.
Senior centerfielder Marcus Renn (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) went 2-for-2 from the plate, including a triple, and drove in a pair of runs. Senior third baseman Justin Ambs (Zionsville, Indiana) also recorded a triple and drove in a pair of runs while senior catcher Brian Scroggins (Edwardsville, Illinois) knocked in two runs as well.

The Eagles were led in the 12-8 loss by junior first baseman Justin Konopacki (Ft. Wayne, Indiana). Konopacki went 4-for-4 from the plate—including a double, a triple, and two singles—and scored two runs.
Senior third baseman Brian Branson (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) was 2-for-4 from the plate and drove in a team-high two runs in the loosing effort.
The Eagles (2-5) will finish their three-game series with Truman State (1-1) tomorrow afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. First pitch of the nine-inning contest is scheduled for 12 p.m.
