Eagles win at Anderson

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team finished the spring road trip 2-3 with a 11-10 victory over Anderson College in Anderson, South Carolina, Friday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles take their record 5-8 overall, while Anderson falls to .500 at 8-8.
The Eagles lost three games to weather during the road trip. The three-game series at the State University of West Georgia was cancelled due to weather last weekend.
USI had to hold on to get the victory. Leading 11-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Anderson scored five times and had the tying on third base when USI got the final out. Freshman left-hander Matt Antey (Newburgh, Indiana) got his first victory of the season, while sophomore left-hander Brian Anderson (Brazil, Indiana) picked up the save by getting the final two outs of the ninth.
Offensively, the Eagles had three players with multiple RBI performances. Junior shortstop Josh Perkins (Lafayette, Indiana) had three RBIs each, while junior second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana) and senior catcher Brian Scroggins (Edwardsville, Illinois) drove in a pair of runs.
The next action for the Eagles will be Tuesday, March 12, at the USI Baseball Field when Brescia University in a rescheduled doubleheader. Game time is noon. The Eagles will return to the road to play Murray State University on Wednesday, March 13, before hosting Quincy University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference three-game series on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17.
