USI baseball closes 2002 with a victory

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team finished 2002 with an 8-2 victory over Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, Sunday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles close out the spring with a 23-28 record.
Junior right-hander Lonnie Baker (Lexington, Kentucky) picked up his third win of the year, going all seven innings. Baker (3-5) scattered eight hits and allowed just two earned runs while striking out three.
Offensively, the Eagles scored all of the runs they would need in the third inning posting five tallies on the scoreboard.
USI finished out the scoring with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 8-2 victory.
Senior third baseman Brian Scroggins (Edwardsville, Illinois) and sophomore leftfielder Adam Anderson (Raleigh, Illinois) led the USI offensive explosion. Scroggins had a pair hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Anderson was had three hits, including a two-run home run in the fifth, and three RBIs in the game.
Freshman first baseman Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) and junior designated hitter Bowie Johnson (Brazil, Indiana) also logged a pair of hits.
The USI game with the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown scheduled for Sunday was cancelled.
