Arnold and Owen named All-GLVC
University of Southern Indiana senior right-hander Steve Arnold (Evansville, Indiana) and junior rightfielder Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin) were named second team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference in a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Arnold was 3-2 in conference action with a 2.01 ERA in nine games for the Eagles. He allowed just 25 runs (12 earned) and struck out 16 in 53.2 innings of action. The senior was 5-5 overall with a 4.31 ERA this spring.
The right-handed pitcher finished 2002 strong, going 4-0 with four complete games in his last five starts. Arnold was dominating in the last five games, allowing just 12 runs (7 earned) and posting a 1.69 ERA in 37.2 innings of work.
Owen was one of USI’s most consistent hitters this spring, batting .327 with a team-high six home runs, five triples and 40 runs scored. He also ranked third on the team with 27 RBIs.
In GLVC action, Owen hit .324 with two home runs and 24 runs scored.
The Screaming Eagles finished 2002 with a 23-29 overall record, 12-17 in the GLVC.
