Kottmeyer signs with USI
The University of Southern Indiana baseball team announced the signing of Mike Kottmeyer (Boulder, Illinois) to a letter of intent for the 2003 season. Kottmeyer is the fourth player to sign with USI Head Coach Mike Goedde this year.
Kottmeyer transfers to USI from Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois. The catcher/right-handed pitcher led Kaskaskia with a .323 batting average while swatting four doubles, three triples, and two home runs. He also drove in 17 runs.
On the mound, Kottmeyer was 1-2 with a 3.50 ERA in 14.0 innings.
“Michael’s ability to pitch and catch combined with being a left-handed hitter made him very attractive to us,” Goedde explained. “We will use him as a closer on the mound. He will be a tremendous player in our program.”
Prior to playing at Kaskaskia, Kottmeyer played a season at Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, Illinois.
Kottmeyer is a 2000 graduate of Carlyle High School in Carlyle, Illinois, where he was a two-sport student athlete. He was named first team All-Conference as a sophomore, junior and senior in football and baseball. The right-handed pitcher also was named All-Area Metro East as a junior and senior.
In his senior season at CHS, Kottmeyer hit .363 with six home runs and 28 RBI, while posting a 5-1 record with a 2.25 ERA. The left-handed swinger led CHS in home runs each of his four seasons.
