Owen named second team All-Region
University of Southern Indiana senior rightfielder Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin) was named second team NCAA Division II ABCA/Rawlings All-Region in a vote by North Central Region coaches. Owen is the first All-Region performer for USI since Mike Peerman in 2000.
Owen finished his USI career by leading the conference and the Eagles in several offensive categories. The senior ranked first in the GLVC and first on the team in home runs (8), triples (8), slugging percentage (.653), and total bases (113) in 2003. He also finished the season ranked 13th, nationally, in triples.
The two-time All-GLVC performer hit .347 and led the Eagles with 38 RBIs and 42 runs scored. Owen, who batted .340 in conference games, was named GLVC Player of the Week in April after hitting .520 in USI’s three-game series with Saint Joseph’s College.
