USI baseball splits doubleheader with OCU

Oakland City, IN The University of Southern Indiana baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Oakland City University to win the season series 3-1 in 2004. USI won the first game Saturday, 6-5, but OCU won the nightcap, 20-3.
The Screaming Eagles are 14-23 overall in 2004, while OCU goes to 18-12 this spring.
In the opener, freshman right-hander Adam Summers (Dyer, Indiana) picked up his third win of the season by going 5.2 innings and allowing just five hits and three runs while striking out three. Summers is 3-3 this spring.
After freshman right-hander Aaron Clark (Madisonville, Kentucky) and sophomore right-hander Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana) helped to get Summers out of a sixth inning jam, sophomore left-hander Nathan Arnold (Evansville, Indiana) earned his first save of the year by getting the last out of the game.
At the plate, junior rightfielder Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) had a two-run home run in the first and junior shortstop Corey Goers (LaPorte, Indiana) had a pair of hits and two RBIs to lead the Eagles.
Game two was all Oakland City. The Mighty Oaks pounded out 20 runs and 22 hits against five USI hurlers. OCU posted a run in every inning except the second, scoring six times in the first twice in the third four in the fourth seven in the fifth and once in the sixth.
The highlights for the Eagles were Keener, who had a pair of RBIs, and junior outfielders Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) and Trevor Kelly (Marshall, Michigan), who had two hits each.
The Eagles resume the GLVC schedule next week with six on the road. USI begins the road swing at Bellarmine University Wednesday, April 14, for a doubleheader and concludes the week at the University of Indianapolis Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18 for a four-game series. Start times for all three doubleheaders are noon.
