Keener named GLVC Pitcher of the Week
USI junior is the first to earn both player and pitcher award in same season
University of Southern Indiana junior right-hander/rightfielder Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Week for his efforts in the Screaming Eagles’ victory over Bellarmine University last week. Keener becomes the first GLVC baseball player to earn both Player and Pitcher of the Week awards in the same season.
Keener picked up his first victory of the year last week against Bellarmine, working eight innings and helping himself by hitting the game-winning home run in the top of the eighth. In his eight innings of work, Keener allowed eight hits and three unearned runs while stiking out four Knight hitters.
In addition to the game winning home run, Keener was three-for-five with two runs scored, an RBI, a home run, and a triple.
Keener and the Eagles return to GLVC action when they travel to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday, April 21, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The squad returns to the friendly confines of the USI Baseball Field this weekend for a final regular season homestand against Saint Joseph’s College, Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25.
