Wetzel and Keener named All-GLVC
University of Southern Indiana junior outfielders Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) and Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) were named All-GLVC in a vote by the leagues head coaches.
Wetzel, who makes a second straight appearance on the All-GLVC teams, was named to the first team for the first time. He becomes the 18th USI baseball player to be named to the conference’s first team.
The junior centerfielder led the Screaming Eagles with a .368 batting average, 41 runs scored and 20 stolen bases. He also was second on the team with 11 doubles, five triples, while ranking third on the squad with 27 RBIs.
At the end of the regular season in the GLVC, Wetzel ranked ninth in batting average third in hits third in triples and fifth in stolen bases.
Keener also makes his second straight appearance on the All-GLVC squad after being named to the second team as an outfielder in 2004. USI’s junior rightfielder, who was named to the second team All-GLVC as a designated hitter last year, led the Eagles with 47 RBIs, 14 doubles, six triples, eight home runs, and a slugging percentage of .606. He also was second on the team to Wetzel with a .347 batting average and 10 stolen bases.
Keener ranked among the conferences elite, ranking first in the league in triples third in slugging percentage and total bases fourth in home runs and 20th in batting average. He also was the first GLVC baseball player to be named Player and Pitcher of the Week in the same season.
USI finished this springs action with a 23-33 overall record and a 17-23 mark in the GLVC.
