Eagles set to face UE in “Battle at the Braun II”
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana baseball team will face the University of Evansville in the “Battle at the Braun II” Tuesday at 6 p.m.
USI (4-7), which jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before falling 18-8 in last season’s game with UE, is looking for its first victory over the Purple Aces since it defeated them 3-0 during the 1988 season. The Screaming Eagles trail the all-time series 25-18 and has lost five of the last six in the series.
Senior second baseman Bryan Davis (West Chester, Ohio) and senior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) led the Eagles with three RBIs apiece in last season’s game. Wetzel leads the Eagles in 2005 with a .405 batting average after going 6-of-8 with a two-run home run and four runs scored in a doubleheader against Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday.
Newburgh, Indiana, native Matt Keener, a senior utility player, is hitting .351 and leads the Eagles with three home runs and 13 runs batted in. Keener, who leads the team with a 0.96 ERA in two appearances on the mound, was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double against the Aces last season.
The Eagles will start senior pitcher Jae Fadde (West Lafayette, Indiana) Tuesday night against the Aces. Fadde earned a save in his last appearance and is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in three appearances this year. He leads the team with 14 strikeouts this season.
