USI baseball hosts KWC Tuesday
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team continues its 14-game homestand by hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College Tuesday at the USI Baseball Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles (17-17, 9-9 GLVC) are 6-2 during the homestand after splitting a four-game series with the University of Indianapolis last weekend. The Eagles were 4-2 last week, including a doubleheader sweep of the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
USI senior utility player Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) had one of the strongest six games stretches by any Eagle this season. Keener started the week by throwing a one-hitter against UMSL and finished the six games by hitting .444.
For the season, Keener leads the Eagles with a .363 batting average, 11 doubles, four home runs, 27 RBIs, and a 2.30 ERA. The 2004 Academic All-American is currently 2-2 in his six appearances on the mound this season.
Senior centerfielder Noah Wetzel (New Salisbury, Indiana) ranks second on the team in hitting with a .360 batting average and leads the team with 27 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.
KWC (12-17, 8-10) comes to the USI Baseball Field after taking three of four from Oakland City University at home last weekend. In their two conference games last week, the Panthers were swept by Bellarmine University last Wednesday.
The teams split the first doubleheader in Owensboro, Kentucky, three weeks ago with the Panthers winning the opener, 5-1, and the Eagles taking the nightcap, 4-3. USI leads the all-time series, 76-49.
