USI baseball signs Thomas
Evansville, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team announced the signing of Adam Thomas, a right-handed pitcher, to a national letter of intent for the 2006 season. Thomas is the first player to sign with USI Head Coach Mike Goedde this spring.
Thomas is a two-year letterwinner in baseball at Plainfield High School and is 3-2 during the 2005 season with a 1.24 ERA in 34 innings pitched. He also has struck out 39 batters.
The Plainfield, Indiana, native was 4-4 in 2004 with a 3.13 ERA in 62 2/3 innings of work. Thomas, who was a teammate of current USI right-hander Jeremy Kehrt at PHS, recorded 55 strike outs as a junior.
PHS is currently 7-8 in 2005. The Quakers were 16-12 and won the Mid-State Conference crown and the Hendricks County championship 2004.
“Adam has his best days ahead of him,” said Goedde. “His assets right now are his size and arm strength. Our goal is to develop his ability to pitch with velocity. Adam is good now, but we have to make him better.
“He will do well pitching in the GLVC against wooden bats.”
