USI resumes GLVC action by hosting SIUE
This Week in Eagles Baseball Notes
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team reaches the halfway mark of the GLVC schedule this weekend when it hosts Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for a four-game series at the USI Baseball Field. The first three games of the series will be conference games with Saturday's doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and Sunday's twin-bill beginning at noon.
USI (19-10, 10-6 GLVC) begins this weekend's conference play in fifth place in the GLVC, a half-game back of fourth-place SIUE (17-8, 11-6). The Screaming Eagles also are just two-and-a-half games out of first place, currently held by Bellarmine University.
The Eagles begin weekend play having won five of their last seven with the loss to the University of Evansville Wednesday night. USI also has won five of the last six in conference play.
The Cougars have been on a roll, winning seven of their last eight after stopping a three-game losing skid. SIUE started the year ranked in the Collegiate Baseball Top 40 and fell out of the top 30 poll this week. The Cougars did receive votes for this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Top 25 poll.
