USI baseball goes on the road this week
This Week in Eagles Baseball Notes
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After playing eight of the last nine at the USI Baseball Field, the University of Southern Indiana baseball team takes to the road for six straight road games, beginning with the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday in Sauget, Illinois. The road swing concludes with a four-game series at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois Saturday and Sunday.
The USI-UMSL Wednesday doubleheader will be played at GCS Park, the site of the GLVC Tournament in May. The new UMSL baseball complex on the Rivermen's campus is currently under construction.
The Screaming Eagles (22-11, 12-7 GLVC) were 4-2 last week and 4-1 in the GLVC to take their record to 11 games over .500 for the first time since 1999. USI also moved up in the GLVC standings and starts this week third in the conference, a half-game behind second place Drury University.
UMSL (15-10, 11-8 GLVC) has lost its last three after being swept by Rockhurst University during the weekend. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Rivermen, 28-27, after splitting the four-game series last year.
Lewis (4-27, 3-18 GLVC) is in the midst of an eight-game losing streak after dropping three games at Northern Kentucky University over the weekend. Prior to hosting the Eagles Saturday and Sunday, the Flyers play at Saint Joseph's College on Wednesday.
USI lost three of four games last year to Lewis and trail in the all-time series, 45-32.
