Mangold signs with USI baseball
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team announced the signing of outfielder Brad Mangold (Evansville, Indiana) to a national letter of intent for the 2009 season. Mangold is the first baseball player to sign with USI and Head Coach Tracy Archuleta in the early signing period.
Mangold began his collegiate career last season at Wabash Valley College (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) where he batted .311 in 48 games with three home runs and 22 RBIs. He is the third player from Wabash Valley to sign with the Eagles in the last two years.
USI has signed three players form Wabash Valley College during the last two years.
Prior to beginning his collegiate baseball career at Wabash Valley, Mangold was a three-sport athlete at Central High School (Evansville, Indiana). He was the team captain of the baseball and football teams and the 2006 Kiwanis Award winner for baseball.
"Brad is very athletic and will be an impact player for us next season," said Archuleta. "He has good speed, handles the bat well, and is a very good outfielder.
"We are very excited to add another top player from the Evansville area to our team, especially since Brad has been a part of two great programs in Wabash Valley and Central" concluded Archuleta.
USI was a school record 43-23 in 2007, advancing to the semifinals of NCAA Division II Baseball Championships for the first time in the history of the program. The Eagles also were 24-15 in the GLVC last season, finishing second during the regular season.
