EVANSVILLE, Ind.. The University of Southern Indiana baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Kentucky Wesleyan College, 8-3 and 2-0, Wednesday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI, which has won 11 of its last 12 games, raises its record to 15-8 overall, while KWC falls to 6-19 in 2008.

The Screaming Eagles were led by sophomore right-handerCasey Geiger (Albion, Indiana), who recorded a save in the opener and earned his third win of the year after starting the nightcap.

Geiger posted his first save of the year by relieving junior right-handed starter P.J. Thomas (Jeffersonville, Indiana) in the fifth inning of game one and got the Eagles out of a two-on, one-out jam without a run scoring. He finished the game for USI by allowing only one hit in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Thomas (3-0) earned the win in game one by pitching the first 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and three runs (two earned). He also struck out three batters.

Geiger (3-2) picked up the win in the 2-0 nightcap victory by pitching four innings and allowing only one hit and one walk. He also struck out three.

USI junior right-hander Michael Dewig (Haubstadt, Indiana), freshman right-hander Trevor Leach (Danville, Indiana), and junior right-hander Shaun Larsen (Tell City, Indiana) finished the second game for Geiger. Larsen struck out the side in the seventh to earn his seventh save of the year, one short of the USI single-season record.

At the plated today, USI junior rightfielder Chad Werry (New Harmony, Indiana) and senior catcher Garrett Oros (Aurora, Illinois) had the big hits in game one. Oros started the scoring for USI with a two-run double in the second inning, while Werry had a two-home run to finish the Eagle scoring in game one.

The Eagles go on the road for the next five games, starting with a four-game GLVC series at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Friday night. USI and SIUE will play a 7 p.m. single game Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a noon single game on Sunday.
