Eagles begin six-game road swing at NKU
USI falls to 24th nationally
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team hits the road for the final six regular season games in 2008 when it plays a doubleheader at Champion Windows Field against Northern Kentucky University in Florence, Kentucky, on Wednesday. The non-conference twin-bill starts at 1 p.m. (CDT).
The Screaming Eagles (33-15), who fell to 24th in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Poll, are coming off a 3-2 week that saw them clinch the GLVC West Division championship. This was the first regular season championship for USI baseball in 15 years. The squad did drop its last two games, marking only the third time this season that USI has lost back-to-back games.
The Norse of NKU (28-20) were 4-1 last week, taking three of four from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The four NKU wins last week got the Norse back on track after suffering through a five-game slide that began with a 7-4 loss to USI on April 16 in Evansville.
USI won that first meeting of the year by coming back from a 3-0 first inning deficit. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Norse, 41-34, and have won the last three meetings.
