Mooney signs with USI baseball
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team announced the signing of sophomore catcher Dylan Mooney for the 2009 season. Mooney is the fifth player to sign with the Screaming Eagles and Head Coach Tracy Archuleta this year.
Mooney transfers to USI after a year at Saint Louis Community College-Meramec. He was the team captain as a freshman and batted .237 with eight RBIs in 35 games. The native of O'Fallon, Missouri, also had four doubles, one triple, and one home run during his first year.
Prior to playing at Saint Louis C.C.-Meramec, Mooney was an offensive leader at Francis Howell Central High School (Cottleville, Missouri). He helped lead FHCHS to a third-place finish in the Missouri state tournament as a senior.
"Dylan gives us with a solid option behind the plate," said Archuleta. "In addition to being a good defensive catcher, he also has the ability to develop as a hitter."
Mooney joins infielder/right-handed pitcher Tyler Choate; right-handed pitchers Ross David and D.J. Smith; and outfielder Brad Mangold in signing with the Eagles and Archuleta this year.
