Larsen named preseason All-American
USI receives votes for the preseason top 40

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana senior right-handed pitcher
Shaun Larsen (Tell City, Indiana) was named preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine and the American Baseball Coaches Association of America. Larsen is the first USI player to be named preseason All-American since Jason Folz in 1998.
Larsen led the NCAA Division II out of the bullpen with a USI single-season and career record 17 saves a year ago. He also had a 3.51 ERA and a 4-1 record in 28 appearances and 35.1 innings of work.

In addition to Larsen, junior right-handed pitcher
Casey Geiger (Albion, Indiana) and junior right-handed pitcher/infielder
Tyler Choate were recognized by Collegiate Baseball Magazine and the ABCA.
Geiger, who was listed as a Player to Watch, was 7-3 overall record with a USI-best 30 appearances and a 2.75 ERA in 55.2 innings of work. He also struck out 38 batters.

Choate, who was recognized as a Newcomer to Watch, transfers to USI from Southern Illinois University where he had a two-year 5-2 record and a 4.29 ERA. He also had a two-year batting average of .258 with 19 RBIs, 23 runs scored, and seven doubles.
As a team, USI received votes for the top 40 poll after putting together a 36-20 record last season, 24-7 in the GLVC. The Eagles won the 2008 GLVC West Division title, winning a conference regular season crown for the first time since 1993.
The GLVC also was represented in the top 40 by Saint Joseph's College (31st) and Bellarmine University (tied-40th). USI was joined in receiving votes by the University of Indianapolis.
