Day two of USI vs. Arkansas Tech cancelled due to weather
Eagles play Saturday against UW-Parkside
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The second game of the University of Southern Indiana and Arkansas Tech University series, scheduled for 2 p.m. this afternoon, has been cancelled due to rain. The game will not be rescheduled.
The Screaming Eagles (9-5) return to the friendly surroundings of the USI Baseball Field this weekend for a four-game non-conference series against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The Saturday and Sunday four-game series is scheduled for a noon first pitch each day.
USI comes back home with a six-game winning streak after defeating Arkansas Tech in the series opener on Tuesday, 10-7. Junior shortstop Wes Fink (Clarksville, Tennessee) and junior first baseman Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois) led the 10-run offensive attack with each hitting a two-run home run, while senior right-hander Matt Nichols (Newburgh, Indiana) provided five strong innings on the mound to pick up his second win of the season.
Through 13 games, freshman leftfielder Chase Holzmeyer (Haubstadt, Indiana) leads the Eagles with a .458 batting average. Senior outfielder Chad Werry (New Harmony, Indiana)and senior third baseman/pitcher Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Indiana) are the team's top RBI producers with 15 each, while Fink and Thieroff are tied with a team-best three home runs each.
The Rangers of UW-Parkside (0-13) come to Evansville this weekend still looking for their first victory of the season. UW-Parkside has been idle since March 1 since losing a three-game series to Harding University in Arkansas.
USI trails the all-time series with UW-Parkside, 21-18, but swept three games from the Rangers last year at home. The Eagles also have won six of the last nine over the last three seasons.
