EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana swept the GLVC weekly baseball honors with senior outfielder
Chad Werry (New Harmony, IN) and senior right-handed closer
Shaun Larsen (Tell City, Indiana) being named Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first time that USI has had players win both awards in the same week.
Werry was instrumental in helping the Screaming Eagles go 7-0 by batting .481 (13-27) with 10 runs scored, eight RBIs, three doubles, and two home runs. He also stole two bases and was flawless in the outfield. The 2008 third-team All-GLVC performer's week was highlighted against the University of Missouri-St. Louis when he went two-for-four with four RBIs and a pair of home runs.
For the season, Werry leads the Eagles with a .393 batting average, ranks second with 30 RBIs, and is tied for second with five home runs. He also has a .664 slugging percentage and has a team-best 15 stolen bases.
Larsen saved four of USI's seven victories, pitching close to perfection in 5.2 innings of work. He saved game one of the doubleheader with UMSL last Monday; saved both ends of a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky University; and finished the week by saving game one Saturday versus Lewis.
USI's single-season and all-time leader in saves has a team-best 11 saves this season to go with a 3-2 record and a 2.62 ERA.

The Eagles (25-8), who rose to 22nd nationally in the latest
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper 30 poll, will have to wait to return to action this week as the USI-Bellarmine University non-conference game scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to Wednesday. The first pitch at the USI Baseball Field also has been moved to 2:30 p.m.
USI leads the all-time series with Bellarmine (21-13), 57-53, and swept last season's series with an 11-6 win at home and an 8-6 win in Louisville, Kentucky. Bellarmine is coming off of a tough weekend at Northern Kentucky University where it lost three of four.
