USI moves into second slot in the region
Eagles to play Knights on the road Thursday
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team rose to second in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Regional ranking released today. The top six teams from each of the eight NCAA II regions earn a berth in the national tournament in May.
The Screaming Eagles (32-11) also are ranked 23rd nationally in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25 poll.
In addition to USI, the GLVC is well represented in the eight-team region poll with three teams from each of its divisions. Rockhurst University and Quincy University from the GLVC West Division were fourth and seventh, respectively, while Bellarmine University, Northern Kentucky University, and Saint Joseph's College from the GLVC East were fifth, sixth, and eighth, respectively, in the poll.
Due to the changes in the baseball schedule caused by the weather last weekend, the USI and Bellarmine (28-16) non-conference game scheduled for today in Louisville, Kentucky, was postponed to Thursday at 3 p.m.
The Eagles return to play in Evansville Saturday when they host Indiana State University at Bosse Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Ticket, which are $5 for adults and $2 for children 14-and-under, can be purchased at the gate. USI students are admitted free with a valid University I.D.
