USI has a rough night against Indiana State

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 23rd-ranked University of Southern Indiana baseball team had a rough night in falling to Indiana State University, 10-0, Saturday night at Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana. USI saw its record fall to 33-12, while Indiana State goes to 26-13.
The Screaming Eagle bats did not wake up Saturday night as USI was only able to get six hits off of Sycamore sophomore right-handed starter Jacob Petricka (6-1) and junior left-handed reliever Kevin Mann. USI's first hit did not come until the fourth inning on a single junior pitcher/designated hitter Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois) and the Eagles were only able to put back-to-back hits together in the seventh and eighth innings.
USI senior third baseman Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Indiana) led all Eagle hitters with two singles.
Choate (7-3) took the loss of the mound for USI, allowing seven runs, six earned, in six innings of work. Junior right-hander Cody Brandenstein (Evansville, Indiana), who allowed three runs in two innings, and freshman right-hander Shad Macke (Evansville, Indiana) followed Choate to the mound.
The Eagles finish the 2009 home scheduled Sunday when they host Oakland City University for Senior Day at the USI Baseball Field. USI's eight seniors – Thieroff, Chad Werry (New Harmony), Chad Bruce (Fountaintown, Indiana), Shaun Larsen (Tell City, Indiana), Nate Noland (Henderson, Kentucky), Royle Beach (Aurora, Colorado), Matt Nichols (Newburgh, Indiana), and Michael Dewig (Haubstadt, Indiana) – prior to the 3 p.m. first pitch.
