Shaun Larsen |
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana senior right-handed closer
Shaun Larsen (Tell City, Indiana) was named second team All-American by Daktronics and the NCAA Division II sports information directors and third team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Larsen becomes just the third USI baseball player to earn All-America honors in back-to-back seasons, joining Kevin Brown and Mike Fetscher, who won the awards in 1993 and 1994.
In addition to being named All-American for a second straight year, Larsen was recognized as pre-season All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper; first team All-Midwest Region by Daktronics and the ABCA; and first team All-GLVC by the conference head coaches. He also was named the Integra/USI Male Student Athlete of the Year in April.
Larsen has been dominant for a second straight season on the mound and tied for the NCAA Division II lead with 16 saves. He also posted a USI-best 2.48 ERA, while ranking third on the team with 62 strike outs in 58 innings of work and a 7-5 overall record.
The senior right-handed reliever also was successful in a starting role, winning his first and only career start in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. Larsen allowed seven hits and three runs, while striking out eight in the complete-game victory over top-ranked Ashland University.
The Eagles' closer finished his career ranked first at USI with 33 saves and fourth all-time with a 2.89 ERA. He also had an 11-6 overall record as an Eagle.
