USI baseball opens home schedule with game versus Oakland City
The University of Southern Indiana baseball team will try to get back on track with a seven-game homestand, beginning Wednesday, February 20, with a single game against Oakland City University. Game time on Wednesday is 2 p.m. at the newly remodeled USI Baseball Field.
The Screaming Eagles got off to a rough start last weekend, dropping a three-game series to Carson-Newman College (13-5, 9-8, and 8-5). Junior shortstop Josh Perkins (Lafayette, Indiana) led the Eagles against Carson-Newman with a .500 average (6-12) and five RBIs. Junior second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana) followed Perkins, hitting .385 with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Following the single game with Oakland City on Wednesday, the Eagles will host Eastern Illinois University Friday, February 22, for nine-innings and Tuesday, February 26, for a doubleheader Truman State University for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday, February 23-24 and Brescia University for a single game Wednesday, February 2.
Historically, USI is 68-23 against teams in the homestand. The Eagles were 3-1 against Oakland City and 1-1 against Brescia a year ago.
USI will begin their spring road trip Saturday, March 2 at the State University of West Georgia. The squad will begin Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday, March 16, when it hosts Quincy University.
