Griffin and Brunson receive post-season honors
Griffin named first team All-GLVC
and second team All-Region
University of Southern Indiana senior center Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) was named to the Daktronics second team All-Great Lakes Region team in vote of by sports information directors. He also was named first team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference in a vote of the league’s coaches.
Griffin led USI in scoring with 14 points and 7.0 rebounds in his only season with the Screaming Eagles. He had nine double-double games and posted collegiate bests against top ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College with 23 points at the Physical Activities Center and 16 rebounds at Roberts Stadiums.
Brunson named GLVC Freshman of the Year
The Evansville native also receives honorable mention All-GLVC honors
University of Southern Indiana freshman guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in vote of the league’s coaches. Brunson also was named honorable mention All-GLVC.
Brunson was second on the team in scoring with 13.4 point per game and averaged 2.5 rebounds. The Reitz High School graduate produced double figures in scoring 20 times as a freshman including a season best 26 points against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Since January 1, the league’s top freshman averaged 15.3 ppg and 3.1 rpg.
Herdes ties record in first season
University of Southern Indiana Head Coach Rick Herdes finished his first season at the helm of the Eagles by tying a school record for wins by a rookie coach. The Eagles finished the year with a 22-8 record overall, reaching 20 wins for the 10th consecutive season.
USI finished GLVC action this year in fourth with a 14-6 conference record. The Eagles have reached 14 or more wins in the league 10 years running.
