USI men’s basketball signs Coffman
The University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team has announced that 6’4” guard/forward Carroll Coffman (Hanson, Kentucky) has signed a national letter of intent for the 2002-03 season. Coffman is the third player to sign a national letter of intent for USI since the signing period began.
A five-time letter winner in baseball and basketball at Hopkins County Central High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, Coffman averaged 17.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game to go along with 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals per contest.
As a junior, Coffman was selected All-District, All-Region, and All-State honorable mention. He also was selected to the Owensboro Invitational All-Tournament team.
Coffman matched those accomplishments his senior season, earning All-State honorable mention honors, All-District honors, and All-Region honors. He was selected to the All-Tournament team at the John Robinson Christmas Tournament.
“Carroll is a very versatile athlete who I think has tremendous upside,” USI Head Coach Rick Herdes said. “We look for Carroll to give us depth at the swing position. His work ethic is very good and will fit in with our returning players.”
Coffman joins a recruiting class that includes forward Dennis Coutee (Jeffersonville, Indiana) and guard/forward Alan Goff (Terre Haute, Indiana).
The USI Screaming Eagles are coming off its 10th straight 20-win season with a record of 22-8 overall, going 17-4 in the final 21 games after a 5-4 start. The Eagles were fourth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a 14-6 league record and advanced to the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament in 2002.
