USI’s Newsome out five weeks with broken foot
University of Southern Indiana junior center/forward Reque Newsome (St. Petersburg, Florida) will be out four to six weeks with a broken right foot. Newsome broke the third metatarsals during practice.
Newsome transferred to USI this summer from Central Florida Community College where he was a two-year starter. He helped CFCC to a 41-22 record over the last two seasons and posted a career average of 5.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg.
The Screaming Eagles are scheduled to open the exhibition season Saturday, November 9, when they host the Tornatta Stars at the Physical Activities Center. The first regular season game will be Saturday, November 23, when they host Wilberforce University at the PAC.
“Rick Herdes on Basketball” set to restart Monday evening at Turoni’s
The “Rick Herdes on Basketball” show on 1280AM WGBF will start its new season, Monday, November 4, at Turoni’s Pizzery & Brewery on Main Street in Evansville. The show will air 20 of the next 22 weeks from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The show will not air Monday, December 2, when USI is playing at Bellarmine University, and on Monday, December 30, during the Christmas Break.
The radio talk show will feature USI men’s basketball Head Coach Rick Herdes and WGBF’s Dan Egierski, who will discuss the Screaming Eagles and college basketball. The pair will take questions from the audience at Turoni’s and calls from listeners.
