USI menís basketball moves into Great Lakes Regional rankings
The University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team was ranked seventh in the first NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll of 2003. This is the first time this season that the Screaming Eagles have been ranked in the Great Lakes Region.
USI, which is 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, begins a three-game GLVC homestand, starting with the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conferenceís Michigan Tech University is the region leader with a 12-1 record. MTU is followed by the GLVCís Lewis University (11-1) in the number two position and Northern Kentucky University (11-2) in third.
NKU was first in the last poll, but has fallen after suffering two losses in the last six games. Kentucky Wesleyan College (10-2) also dropped a slot from fourth to fifth.
The NCAA Division II Tournament has been expanded to 64 teams this year with eight teams coming from each region.
