Harris named GLVC Player of the Week
University of Southern Indiana junior forward/center Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in the Screaming Eagles’ victories over Bellarmine University and 12th-ranked Northern Kentucky University last week at the Physical Activities Center.
Harris averaged 16.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg, while hitting 63.2 percent (12-19) from the field and 72.7 percent (8-11) from the line. He began the week by scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in just 21 minutes of action as USI raced by Bellarmine, 107-82. The junior forward/center came back on Saturday to hit 6-of-8 shots from the floor and score 15 points in 23 minutes as the Screaming Eagles recorded a huge 87-82 victory over nationally ranked NKU.
The public relations and advertising major has been on fire in his last seven appearances that has included a move from a forward off the bench to the starting center position. Harris is averaging 15.6 ppg and 7.7 rebounds, while shooting 62.3 percent (38-61) from the field and 80.5 percent (33-41) from the charity stripe over his last seven contests.
Harris and the Eagles resume GLVC action Thursday, January 23, when they start a two-game road trip at Saint Joseph’s College. Game time in Rensselaer, Indiana, will be 7:30 p.m. USI enters this week’s action with an 11-4 overall record, 6-3 GLVC.
