USI menís basketball opens regular season at the PAC versus Lincoln
The University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team tips-off the 2003-04 regular season schedule Saturday, November 22, against Lincoln University at the Physical Activities Center. Game time Saturday is 7 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off of a 1-1 exhibition season. The Eagles bounced back from a exhibition loss to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a 125-75 victory over the Bradley Stars last Friday.
During the two-game exhibition schedule, USI was led in scoring by senior center John Oden (St. Louis, Missouri), who had 20 points against UWM, and senior guard Joe Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida), who dropped in 28 points against the Bradley Stars. Gordon averaged 17.0 points in the two games.
Saturday evening, the Eagles will still be without Oden, who missed the exhibition win over the Bradley Stars and will miss the first two regular season games with a broken foot.
On the boards, USI was led by senior forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois). Harris averaged 7.0 rebounds over the two games and was followed by junior guard Aaron Austin (Chicago Heights, Illinois), who grabbed 6.5 boards per game while posting 16.0 points per game.
Lincoln will have one regular season game under its belt when it visits the PAC on Saturday, but it will likely want to forget the outcome. The Blue Tigers lost to Northeastern State University, 75-43, after scoring just 14 points in the first half.
The top returning scorer from Lincoln is senior guard Andre King, who had averaged 8.4 points a year ago. In the loss to Northeastern State, the Blue Tigers were led by senior center Albert Strickland with eight points.
