2nd-ranked USI menís basketball makes it a clean sweep on the road

The #2-ranked University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team used a 15-0 run mid-way through the second half to defeat Quincy University 80-69 Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Illinois. USI pushes its record to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 3-5 overall, 1-3 GLVC.
Down 54-53 with 13:58 remaining, the Eagles went on a 15-0 run to take a 68-54 lead. The Hawks continued to hang with the Eagles, cutting the lead down to six points at 75-69 with under a minute to play before USI put the game away. Junior guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana), senior guard Avery Queen (Moreno Valley, California) and senior guard Joe Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida) sealed the victory by combining to hit five of six free throws for the 80-69 final.
In the first half, USI had lead for most of the first frame and pushed the margin to as many as 11 points, 46-35, before taking a nine-point lead, 46-37, into the locker room at intermission.
With a four-game conference sweep to start the year, the Eagles have won 11 straight GLVC games on the road and have swept five straight road trips in the league. USI also has won 12 straight games on the opponentís home court.
Leading four Eagles in doubles figure scoring was Gordon with 18 points. Senior center John Oden (St. Louis, Missouri) followed Gordon with 12 points, while junior guard/forward Aaron Austin (Chicago Heights, Illinois) added 11 points and senior forward Clarence Chillers (Chicago, Illinois) dropped in 10 points.
The Eagles resume the non-conference part of the 2003-04 schedule Monday, December 8, when they host Henderson State University in a 7 p.m. contest. Henderson State comes the PAC sporting a 6-0 record after a 79-68 victory over Arkansas Baptist College Thursday evening.
The Reddies are led by senior forward Steve Parillon, who is averaging 19.3 ppg and 10.0 rpg. Junior guard Tarvoris Uzoigwe follows Parillon in the Reddiesí scoring column with 16.8 ppg.
USI leads the series with Henderson State, 2-0, after winning last yearís meeting at the PAC, 79-70.
