Two more commit to USI men’s basketball
The University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team announced the signing of its sixth and seventh players of the year in 6’4” guard/forward Stacy Pearson (Riverdale, Georgia) and 6’7” forward Eric Washington (Lafayette, Indiana) for the 2004-05 season.
Pearson, who signed a national letter of intent, transfers to USI from Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Florida, after sitting out the 2003-04 season. He lead BCC in 2002-03, averaging 21.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 16 games after recovering from a broken foot.
Pearson, who will have two years of eligibility, shot 48.0 percent (106-221) from the field, 42.1 percent (24-57) from long range, and 70.1 percent (61-87) from the line.
Washington comes to USI from San Jose State University where he played in eight games for the Spartans. He sat out the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons.
Prior to attending San Jose State, Washington was a second team All-Region player for Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. He averaged 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds during the teams 29-9 season in 2000-01.
Washington, who committed to USI by accepting a scholarship, played his prep basketball at Lafayette Central Catholic High School. He helped LCCHS to the 1999 and 2000 Indiana State Championships and averaged 15.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as a senior.
“Both Eric and Stacy are impact players who will be counted upon to help fill the voids in the forward spots,” said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes.
Pearson and Washington join guards David Bryant (Louisville, Kentucky), Danny Gibson (Madison, Indiana), and Carl Richburg (Mason, Ohio) as well as forwards Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) and John Hoover (Evansville, Indiana) in signing with USI this year.
