USI men’s basketball shooting to keep streaks going on Saturday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team will have several streaks on the line Saturday when the 24th-ranked Screaming Eagles host Kentucky Wesleyan College at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on Insight Cable 2.

The Eagles have won four in a row and nine of the last 10 are 11-0 at the Physical Activities Center in 2004-05 and have won 20 straight at home since the middle of last season. USI also has held its opponents to 60 points or less in a program-best four straight games.

Seniors Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) and Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) have led the Eagles during the winning streak with 14.8 ppg and 14.3 ppg, respectively. Brunson is breaking out of his mid-season slump after averaging just 7.1 ppg in the 10 games prior to the latest winning streak.

Holbrook, who has been named the GLVC Player of the Week two of the last three weeks, continues to lead the Eagles with 16.1 ppg and 18.6 ppg in the last nine games.

The Panthers of KWC (11-6, 6-5 GLVC), who play at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening prior to Saturday’s match-up, won just once in the last four games after reeling off six straight wins midway through the season. Last weekend, the Panthers split at home, defeating Lewis University, 74-70, and losing to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 59-54.

KWC junior guard Antonio Bright leads the Panthers with 17.5 ppg and 7.3 rpg, while senior center Franklyn Ferguson is second with 15.5 ppg and 7.1 rpg.

The Panthers lead the all-time series against USI, 43-28, and have won 10 of the last 15 since 2000. The Eagles have control of the “Battle for the Bridge” trophy after sweeping last year’s regular season and winning three of the four in 2003-04.
